Systems Engineer II
Marcus Hotels & Resorts is seeking an experienced IT Systems Engineer II to support and strengthen our technology environment. This role is responsible for the installation, administration, support, and preventive maintenance of server, storage, backup, print, and operating systems across both on premises and cloud based platforms, along with hands on administration of networking infrastructure as needed, including circuits, firewalls, load balancers, switches, VLANs, domains, GPOs, and Entra ID. The Systems Engineer III also plays a key role in maintaining security governance, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies while delivering reliable, scalable solutions. This position is based at our corporate headquarters in downtown Milwaukee and requires in office presence five days per week.

What you will be doing:
- Administer and support physical, virtual, and cloud based servers, including monitoring/alerting, patching, reporting, software deployment, and server hardening in alignment with corporate standards.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement system improvements across hardware, server operating systems, e mail, file systems, and management platforms to optimize performance, health, and security.
- Manage hypervisor platforms and enterprise storage systems (SAN/NAS), including provisioning, performance tuning, capacity planning, and resource optimization.
- Administer backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions (Veeam, Rubrik), ensuring data integrity, compliance, tested recovery plans, and participation in DR exercises.
- Support and deliver server and storage solutions for core data center and distributed server environments, including third tier break/fix support for Windows Server and Linux systems.
- Provide working expertise in Azure IaaS and PaaS, including virtual networks, subscriptions, resource groups, RBAC, Azure Policy, Key Vault, Azure SQL, monitoring tools, and advanced Azure networking (VNet peering, NSGs, UDRs, private endpoints, Private DNS Zones, VPN/ExpressRoute).
- Maintain working knowledge of AWS infrastructure, including EC2, VPC, S3, IAM, and core infrastructure management.
- Collaborate with network, application, and security teams to troubleshoot connectivity issues, optimize traffic flow, and support basic networking services (VLANs, firewalls, DNS/DHCP).
- Lead and support Microsoft 365 migrations and administration, including planning, execution, post migration support, and ongoing management of Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
- Document systems and processes, mentor junior engineers, work with end users and third party providers to resolve complex issues, support cross team initiatives, and perform additional duties as assigned.
What we are looking for:
- 5+ years of experience in systems engineering or infrastructure roles; Bachelor’s degree in a computer science or engineering is strongly preferred.
- Certifications such as VMvare, VCP, Microsoft MCSE, Cisco CCNA or equivalent strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of the following technologies:
- Windows Server OS based solutions.
- Linux Server OS based solutions.
- Data networking knowledge.
- Knowledge and experience in virtualization, today specifically VMware.
- Experience in multi-site & multi-domain Active Directory management.
- Knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio.
- Experience with backup software and recovery strategies, SAN technologies, web servers.
- Understanding of or experience supporting Oracle, SQL or other database platforms.
- Experience with Exchange 2016 and Exchange Online services and support.
- Excellent incident identification and problem solving skills and able to work as part of a team and independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally and effectively with all levels.
- Ability to prioritize workload base on business needs and perform duties under deadline pressure.
- Patience, flexibility, and ability to handle pressure in a fast-paced, high volume office environment.
- Detail-oriented and dedicated to follow-through in all work to meet accurately and effectively complete operational and project based assignments on-time.
- Must be able to work independently to troubleshoot, perform root cause analysis, identify and isolate technical issues.
- Must be able to work on site 5 days a week during normal working hours and available as necessary before or after normal working hours when needed.
