Director of Engineering
Do you consider yourself a “busy body”? Find yourself always thinking about the way things work? Our engineers are always on the move & this position provides oversight of our Engineering Department. It helps to ensure that all building and equipment remains in good repair with a minimum of down time by overseeing and assisting with day-to-day maintenance and preventative maintenance of the hotel. This integral part of Hilton Milwaukee’s leadership team will also serve on the Executive Committee.
- Supervise, direct, and inspect Engineers, Painters, and Carpenters daily to ensure productivity and quality meet standards.
- Develop and manage the weekly work schedule for the department.
- Process daily payroll edits and reports promptly.
- Provide counsel and discipline to associates as necessary.
- Conduct performance appraisals, including skills testing for Engineers.
- Coordinate and oversee projects as directed.
- Interact with guests, contractors, vendors, peers, and corporate executives as needed.
- Assist department staff with troubleshooting, regular maintenance, and repairs.
- Perform regular inspections of public areas, back-of-house areas, guest rooms, and exterior spaces.
- Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements for Engineers and Painters.
- Collaborate with the Building Superintendent on budget creation, including capital items, and ensure departmental spending and payroll stay within budget.
- Serve as Manager On Duty, Lobby Ambassador, and in other management roles as assigned.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
What Do You Bring to the Role?
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints/schematics, procedural manuals, budgets/financial statements, and OSHA standards.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining:
- Physical building and all FF&E
- A/C and refrigeration equipment
- Electrical systems
- Mechanical equipment (e.g., motors, starters, pumps, fans)
- Plumbing and drains
- Pneumatic and electronic systems and controls
- Fire Alarm and Life Safety equipment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Capability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong analytical skills for problem assessment and solution implementation.
- Professional demeanor and well-groomed appearance.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools.
- Computer proficiency.
- Prior supervisory or management experience in a similar environment.
