We’re seeking an experienced and dynamic Bar Manager to lead the reopening of the River Center Market’s Upper Bar under the new management of Marcus Hotels & Resorts. In this role, you’ll set the standard for exceptional guest experiences, overseeing every aspect of the bar’s operations from cleanliness and beverage quality to service excellence. Your leadership will foster a high-performing, motivated team, boosting morale, and building a culture of hospitality that keeps guests coming back. By driving sales through outstanding service, smart up-selling, and strategic promotions, you’ll help maximize profitability and elevate Milwaukee’s newest, premier cocktail destination.

Located in the heart of Milwaukee’s Theater District inside the iconic Associated Bank Tower, the River Center Market sits at the crossroads of arts, finance, business, tourism, and dining. Overlooking the Milwaukee River, the Upper Bar offers sweeping city and river views, serving craft cocktails, fine wines, and premium spirits in a vibrant, sophisticated setting.

What will you be doing?

  • Interview, select, train, schedule, and lead bar staff while fostering a positive, high-performing team culture that leads to the efficient operation of the outlet.
  • Conduct pre-shift and departmental meetings to share updates, assign tasks, and maintain service consistency.
  • Oversee daily operations to ensure exceptional guest service, product quality, cleanliness, and adherence to brand and Marcus standards.
  • Manage budgets, control payroll and inventory costs, and maximize profitability through strategic sales and up-selling.
  • Organize and execute special events, promotions, and collaborations to drive revenue and guest engagement.
  • Maintain accurate records, inventory, and cash handling procedures, including POS operation and reporting.
  • Build strong relationships with guests, vendors, corporate and other internal departments; resolve issues promptly to ensure complete guest satisfaction.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards.
  • Track and analyze performance metrics, making data-driven adjustments to improve operations and revenue.
  • Lead employee development, performance reviews, and succession planning to ensure long-term team success.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What do you bring to the role?

  • Minimum 2 years of prior Food & Beverage supervisory experience; prior management experience preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of food and beverage operations, preparation techniques, wine varieties, labels, and vintages.
  • Strong mathematical skills and a proven ability to manage inventory, control costs, and track revenue. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and touch-screen POS systems.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to read, write, and interact effectively with guests and staff.
  • Ability to take direction and adhere to brand standards that come from corporate departments. 
  • Skilled at handling guest and employee concerns with patience, tact, diplomacy, and proactive solutions.
  • Ability to stand and move throughout restaurants and kitchen areas for the duration of the shift, flexible to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must obtain and maintain Responsible Beverage Service, ServSafe, and other certifications as required by Marcus Hotels & Resorts.
